Update BlackBerry OS with Mac OSX

Anyone care to shed light on RIM regressive planning?

After many years Mac user snow have a good Desktop Manager for BlackBerry devices

However, it is not possible to update the BlackBerry OS using Mac OSX

The only OS update file provided is in a Windows proprietary format

And that would be because...?

Any thoughts very welcome

Thanks

Ian

Re: Update BlackBerry OS with Mac OSX

Hello iandean,

With the release of BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac came the option to update software.

KB19150 will show you how to get started.

Your device must have handheld software 4.5 or newer (listed under Options>About) for the update to work.

Let me know how you make out.

Thanks!

Re: Update BlackBerry OS with Mac OSX

I tried to follow the instructions on that KB post, but whenever I try to update the device software it stops without warning and says "Device Update Cancelled" in the lower left.

I have the latest version of the Desktop Manager, OSX 10.6.4, and my phone is a BB 9000 running 4.6.0.304

Any thoughts?

Re: Update BlackBerry OS with Mac OSX

Ok, so I tried again after wiping and reinstalling the stuff on the phone.  It sort of worked.

Apparently it won't cancel if I'm not connected to the internet at the time (?!).  So what I did was start the update with my wireless turned off on my laptop, then connected to the internet after the desktop manager complained about it.

It's downloading now, I hope it works.

RIM, you need to do some QA.  This program is bug-ridden.

Re: Update BlackBerry OS with Mac OSX

didn't have enough space :smileysad:

It says I don't have the newest version of the desktop manager, which is incorrect (2.0.0 build 64).  This seems to be the snag when I'm connected to the internet.

Ugh.  This is an unsatisfying consumer experience.

Also: WTH do I need to be connected to the internet to remove apps from the blackberry?

Re: Update BlackBerry OS with Mac OSX

Similar question I think-

Currently running v4.7.1.65, and my carrier is offering v5.0.0.1061.  I can't download it from RIM since I have a mac and its packaged as an .exe file.  When I try to follow the KB advice I get the message that there are no updates available.  I'm also in the middle of nowhere and can't get to a store.  Any suggestions?
