Howdy.. First post here... looks like you folks have things working very well for you.. here's my experience.
It's been about a month since "backing up" my 8310. I had about 375 phone and contact info items.
Today I arrived home with just a few minutes on my hands and so I plugged in the 8310 to get a quick Backup.
I was immediately challenged for a password! The password's I use are well documented, but none of them worked.
After several attempts, I contacted Cingular... I was down to 9/10 attempts... their suggestions failed and the 8310 went immediately into a 'WIPE' action... yes, totally wiped the 8310!!!!!!
I was disappointed.
- I had no idea what "password" was needed... and carefully tried all I had
- the 8310 asked for me to enter the word "blackberry" to continue...
- There were only 10 chances then the8310 went into a "WIPE"
- All data was not lost... as I started restoring, some interesting parts were still functional such as the "name" and information on the homescreen.
The support folks said : You must have initiated an "application removal"... nope.. sure didn't.. but that's what happened.
So, I'm upgrading from the Nov 2007 version 184.108.40.206... to 450_b016_english.exe ... wish me luck!
Also, although the "Desktop Manager" shows it is updating the contacts... it doesn't...
"Thanks" in advance for any recommendations...

I figured it out!
I used what I thought were all numerics in my password when typing it in from the Desktop Manager. Turns out, you are only using "letters" as mentioned elsewhere in this forum!!!!
Now.. all I need is a "kick here" sign....

This happened to me too! Last night it asked me for my password when I connected my phone to my computer (for the first time) . I put in my password a couple of times that I use to unlock the phone. When it said that everything was going to be deleted on the next try I quickly disconnected my phone from my computer. However when I went to use my phone the same message was on it. I tried using my unlock password but the whole thing turned off and starting wiping off everything. I lost everythings....notes, texts, memos, contacts, pictures....I am so upset!! Very valuable stuff....and some sentimental too!!
Please tell me if there is a way to retrieve all this data. Thank you for any help!
and what password was it asking me for anyways?? and where do I find it?
