This is so frustrating! I tried to update my Bold 9900 this morning and it just froze at the back up. So I tried to just back up my phone first but it keeps freezing at "Backing up Smart Card Options 1 of 1 Record" and it won't carry on. What am I to do? I'm having major problems with the battery and all sorts, my last blackberry was as good as gold, this one is just awful!!

I'm having the exact same issue. At first I thought it was my new Torch 9860, but after reading this I suspect it's something in the Desktop Software. It does the same thing whether backing up to update or doing a stand-alone backup: it gets to "Database: Smart Card Options 1 of 1 Record" and hangs.

This is really bad because I haven't been able to get a good backup since I switched to my Torch!

I actually ended up leaving in Vodafone all day and they've done it all for me, I'm about to go and collect it. Fingers crossed it's sorted now!

I have the same problem withe the same phone! My carrier is Bell.

I ended up deleting the "Social Feeds" app altogether. The backup was actually hanging on the preferences for that app (it comes after "Smart Card," alphabetically), but I never used it anyway so I just deleted it. If you use and like the "Social Feeds" app, try excluding its prefs from the backup. Problem solved!

to resolve the issue I deleted my social feeds and now back ups are now working properly.
