Basic Backup Question - How to Respond to Choices on BlackBerry?

When I plug the USB cable into my Bold and it connects to my PC, I get a dialog box on the Bold that says "Blackberry is plugged in" and gives me three choices:  1. USB Drive  2. Sync Media or 3 Charge Only.  I have never known which to select since what I want to do is backup my BlackBerry with Desktop Manager so I typically just ignore the dialog box.

Is that what I'm supposed to be doing?  Or should I select one of the three choices each time?

Sorry for the dumb question - but I've never known how to deal with this.  I have a Bold 9900 running 7.1.0.284 and desktop manager 6.1.0.36.

Actually, it really doesn't matter, but that works.
