I just upgraded from BDM 4.3 to 4.5. It took like three syncs (with Outlook 2007) to get it to go through error-free; just about gave me an anxiety attack.
Something I noticed: BDM 4.3 synchronized much faster than 4.5 does. With 4.5, it looks like it's "processing device calendar" (or contacts, etc.) two or three times before it even starts reading from Outlook, then when it finally merges the information onto the device (Curve 8330) it takes forever. Like I can watch it counting the couple hundred contacts as it syncs, where in 4.3 it was just *zip* and it was done.
It almost makes me want to uninstall and roll back to 4.3... which I may well still do if I have any more sync errors.
Anyone else notice this?

I even reinstalled the OS....very slow...

I don't know the internals of the 4.5 sync app, but as an old programmer I would bet that it is written in a very inefficient manner. This read-process-read-process approach smacks of either a novice programmer or some hot-shot coding without regard to the burden it places on the end user.
I would be interested in hearing a good reason for this approach. I would also be interested in seeing an upgrade to the sync app that performs at least as well as the Palm Desktop did with my old iQue.

I'm not sitting at 25 minutes, but it is a good three to five full minutes with 4.5, vs. the 30 seconds it took with 4.3.
Of course, now that it's working, I'm scared to death to roll back because you never know what it will break. The synchronization feels so unpredictable and fragile.

You might want to start a new topic with a more applicable headline so the folks in the forum will be better able to locate and answer your question. This topic is actually about figuring out a way for working sync to go a little quicker.

Maybe you can help. I just purchased the 8330 and am using BDM 4.3. I cannot even find the option to sync to Outlook. Should Outlook popup as an option when I go to configure my sync? It sounds like you have been successful with this. Thanks for any help you can give.
