Blackberry Bold 9700 backup

Hi!

I was able to backup the data of my phone to the computer before it broke down. (Display shows an all white screen, I think the problem is the Display screen)

Questions are:

1. Is the problem easy to repair?

2. How do I open the saved data on my computer? I need to check some contacts and text messages.

3. How do I transfer all the data back to a new phone? Does this phone HAVE to be a Blackberry in order for contacts/messages/pictures to be transferred?

Thanks in advance for addressing my questions.

I think that can only be firmly answered by a qualified technician with the device in their hands. If the problem is not a hardware issue, you might be able to recover it with this:

  • KB27956 How to recover a BlackBerry smartphone from any state

Natively, the backup file (either BBB or IPD, depending on the version of the Desktop Software you used) is intended for only one purpose...as the source for restore to a BlackBerry. But, there are several PC-based 3rd party apps out there that can parse the backup file, some even allowing you do do other things with the resulting data. I've never had the need, but I've heard good things about MagicBerry. Search for a few seconds (e.g., on Google) and I'm sure you will find plenty of candidates for your needs.

To transfer to another BB, you simply perform the restore:

  • KB10339 How to use BlackBerry Desktop Software to restore data to a BlackBerry smartphone from a backup file

To transfer to another device, those 3rd party backup file parsing apps (from your item 2 above) would be your source...you'd have to figure out what that non-BB device requires, and then manipulate the data into the format required, and then use whatever that non-BB device has for loading the data to that device.

Good luck!
