Blackberry DTM will not launch/error after install

Hello everyone/gurus,

I've been attempting to install DTM V 7.1 for 3 days now with no success.  I've surfed these forums for prior posted solutions but still no success despite trying these.  After clean installs of 7.1 and Device Manager 5.0 these are the three error messages that I'm receiving when I try to startup DTM:

 

Rim.Desktop.AutoUpdate has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Background:

OS: Windows XP Home Edition SP3

Microsoft Office 2010

Used to have BB DTM 4.7 installed and working properly.  Cleanly removed this before 7.1 download.  4.7 does not work with Outlook 2010 which is why I wanted the upgrade.

 

Have already tried

  • clean removals & re-installs x 5 with complete shutdowns in-between
  • have already tried suggested threads for "cleanly removing & starting over"
  • extracting exe files to desktop using 7-Zip
  • verifying presence of .NET framework 3.5 SP1
  • Installing Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0xxx

Does anyone out there have a straightforward solution/answer to my errors above please?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble installing the BlackBerry® Desktop Software. Are you installing it in a Windows® user account with local admin privileges? This KB article may provide more information. I do get the same error, when opening Desktop Manager on my Windows 7 PC:

In that case, I would suggest asking your wireless service provider to open a case on your behalf with RIM® for further investigation into this issue.

Answer: Yes, I believe so.  I'm installing this program on my personal laptop following the instructions and file paths as provided by RIM.

 

In any case the error I'm getting is not EXACTLY the same as the one you quoted.  It does not include the verbiage about a HTTPServerSetup problem.    Additionally, the KB article that you referred to only states in the Resolution:  "This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available." so that does not appear to be of much help in solving my problem.

 

Any other straightforward suggestions?  Anyone?  Thank you very much.
