Cannot install BB Desktop Software v7.0 on Windows 7

I downloaded the new Desktop Software  v7.0 B44, but cannot install it. When I double click on the file (700_b044_multilanguage.exe) it starts extracting itself, and it stops half way (while unzipping Data1.cab) and a message comes up saying "Zip damaged: file Data1.cab: Bad CRC".

Anyone else has the same problems? Please advise. By the way, I'm using Windows 7, in case that makes any difference. Thanks.

Re: Cannot install BB Desktop Software v7.0 on Windows 7

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Try the following steps:

  1. Download the BlackBerry Desktop Software from the BlackBerry website
  2. Rename the file from a .exe to .zip
  3. Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder on the Desktop.
  4. Run the uninstall process of BlackBerry Desktop Software but when the Installshield Wizard pops up be sure to select Repair, when the Windows Installer error message shows up click Browse
  5. Navigate to the folder on the Desktop and select BlackBerry Desktop Software.msi

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks,

Re: Cannot install BB Desktop Software v7.0 on Windows 7

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I did steps 1 and 2, but when I was extracting, it stopped at Data1.cab with a message saying: "Error 0x800004005: Unspecified error".

Please advise. Thanks.

This is not working. Error 2330.Error getting file attributes: K:. GetLastError: 23

K is an external drive and should have nothing to do with the DS Manager

Re: Cannot install BB Desktop Software v7.0 on Windows 7

Sorry, should have mentioned I am on Vista. Seems to have part loaded 7. But regardless, stuck between being unable to repair or remove 7. Sync is a nightmare, with Outlook seeking to duplicate all my diary entries on the Device. 6 was fast and efficient. 7 is a real horror.

Hi Iveras,

I cannot find a RIM KB but this article from Wikki Errors is worth reading:

How to fix 0x800004005 Error?

Also this article from Microsoft Answers Win 7

Windows 7 SP 1 error: E_FAIL (0x800004005)

This link contains Microsoft site search results I am pursuing:

Thanks,

Hi DHBelfast and welcome to the forums!

Please open a different thread to deal with your specific issues.

Interjecting your problem into this thread started by user Iveras is considered poor "forum decorum" , it confuses users wanting to help and delays any resolution for you both.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
