DM 4.6 Install Crashes - Cannot Remove - Cannot Reinstall 4.3

Using Pearl 8130 on DM 4.3, all working fine.  I checked for updates and found 4.6, which I downloaded.  When trying to install it "choked" on trying to register the GroupWise (does anybody actually use that?) .dlls.  Then it "hang" for about 20 minutes.  Task manager showerd 50-90% CPU usage of my HT 3.06 gig CPU at that time, and it was the only thing running.  So, I killed it.  The DM, 4.6, starts yet is is missing icons and info.  So, I tried to reinstall, same result.

From a cold boot I tried to remove 4.6 through "Add and Remove Programs".  I received an error message stating that the program actually had to be installed for it to be removed.  I thought that my problem was solved.  I could reinstall 4.3.  Phooey!  The installer said I had a newer version installed which I must uninstall first.

Unhappily chasing my tail, since I have a problem with the 8130 and Verizon wants to replace it.  I want to back it up first.

Thanks for any insight, like a nuke for the 4.6 and hopes for 4.6.1.

Re: DM 4.6 Install Crashes - Cannot Remove - Cannot Reinstall 4.3

Hey! It sounds like we've a similar problem!

That doesn't make me happy but I do hope that means someone from the tech team at BB will take note.

Nearly same situation as you. Had 4.5 installed. Tried to install 4.6. It hung on 'registering modules'. Stopped install and then went to install and uninstall and found 4.5 and 4.6 in the XP application install/uninstall list. Uninstalled 4.6 then 4.5.

RIM folder was still in C/Programs after rebooting. Infact, DM started! when I rebooted so uninstall failed.

Install / Uninstall showed neither DM but DM was running!

I shut down redirector and deleted RIM folder. Then used Registery cleaner and WinDirStat to remove (I hoped all) RIM leftovers.

Still no joy. 4.6 with no media hangs. 4.5 with no media hangs.

Can't install desktop manger.

I'm growing desperate here.

Above is a link of video showing the regedit process.

I cleaned out the remaining RIM reg keys.

Then tried to install 4.5 with no media manager.

After about 20+ minutes the DM installer apparently hung on registering modules (the msiexec spiked to 90+%).

The UI for install is pretty much a black box so I've no idea what part it really got stuck on... is there a debugger installer with a more verbose commentary during install so I (we) can see where the installer hangs?

I've been fighting to get this installed off and on now for over three days.

Please help.

Re: DM 4.6 Install Crashes - Cannot Remove - Cannot Reinstall 4.3

Fully 2 hours of work and reading and testing. And still, I'm not sure if the install is going to stick as I got NO "install completed successfully". Just icons on my desktop and my CPU screaming at 100%. Much better UI for installs called for from the Blackberry people.

Watch and be amazed... imagine if you had an office full of the same problem!

The process did finally work... after nearly two hours of continuous research and work. The support on the forums was critical for my success!
