Re: Desktop Manager 6.0 Crashing

6.0 is running fine on my Dell laptop but it will not run on my home desktop. It loads ok and tries to run. The first BlackBerry splash screen displays OK but then the main screen / menu looks like a bunch of colored speckles (as below).  I have unload, reset, reloaded, re download the file 3x and still the same.

Has anyone else seen this? At this point, I am will not try to load it onto myhome laptop and netbook.

Re: Desktop Manager 6.0 Crashing

found a solution that worked for me on another forum.  i am running win7 x64 ultimate.

1.  find log file C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Logs (r wherever it is on your machine, i have seen several locations mentioned....)

2.  look towards the end of the log file, and carefully note any file paths that show. in my log, there were 5 files listed, like so (trimmed for brevity):

:03.629|INFO |20|Rim.Desktop.Media|38062|Source Video Information: O:\BlackBerry\videos\VID 00000-20100612-1710.3GP|320|480|15.55917|638914|8000|5|mp4v|True|True
.......
19:59:05.630|INFO |20|Rim.Desktop.Media|38062|Source Video Information: O:\BlackBerry\videos\VID 00001-20100612-1740.3GP|320|480|7.805457|29221|8000|136|mp4v|True|True

etc.

in my case, the files were actually on the device.

3. delete (or move) files.

stealing from a earlier post:

4. If the application simply disappears, you can try to set the following Registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerryTranscoder\SkipSupportCheck (DWORD) to a value of ‘1’

now, i did not find the reg item in that location, it was HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Research In Motion\BlackBerryTranscoder

i don't know if that helped, but moving the files most certainly did.

good luck with it, all

Re: Desktop Manager 6.0 Crashing

amazing, I've tried everything for the last 4 days trying to get this to work.  I finally went back to my last version of desktop manager which also sucked, but at least worked half assed.  I think Blackberry needs to fire the developers of this software and hire someone who can make it work.  over the years I've installed programs on every version of windows since 3.1, and I've got to say that this is by far the worst software I've seen to date.  it almost makes me want to take my phone back.  wow, I can remember the days when companies put out stuff that worked, now, they just kind of throw it out there and if it doesn't work, no big deal, all they have to do is ignore it, don't accept emails, and give customers an automated system to talk to so they don't actually have to be held accountable.  don't get me wrong, I love my phone, but I use the desktop manager, and would love to see software that actually works the way it's supposed to.

Re: Desktop Manager 6.0 Crashing

If they won't listen to us, let's take it to the next level. I have just sent an email to the BBC (Click) in UK asking them to do a piece on the problems we are having and the lack of customer support. Perhaps, (allthough don't hold your breath) they will listen to them.

Re: Desktop Manager 6.0 Crashing

I uninstalled 6.0, and still have the prior version installed.  I tried again to synch and I still get the "intellisynch unknown error".  I can back up but can't synch.  I tried to "repair" through the install/uninstall windows program and it told me it was on an unknown drive.  I don't want to mess around with the codes, registry, etc. because I synch to a work computer.  I tried to reinstall the software manager, but the disk I have is an older version and I don't want to start all over.  Anyone out there have any success on figuring out this error?  The desktop manager is working fine except for the synch and I don't have any "blow ups" since I uninstalled 6.0. but I am pissed about the synch issues.  THANKS!!!

Re: Desktop Manager 6.0 Crashing

My Experience - for what it's worth:

Was using DM 5.0.1 with Outlook 2007, no issues.

Installed DM 6, received "Unknown Error" when trying to configure organizer sync.

After reading the posts here,

Uninstalled DM6.

Uninstalled DM 5.0.1

Reinstalled DM6

DM6 now works, no issues.

I'm using a ThinkPad T60, Windows7(64), Outlook 2007

And yes, I do consider myself lucky that DM6 is working.  Expected to have to return to DM5.

Re: Desktop Manager 6.0 Crashing

Dear paulp1,

Tried everything you described, just as you did.  The moving of the video folders helps go around the "cannot find directory path" fatal error... but it does NOT take away the OUT OF MEMORY exception which most likely the main reason for the crash!  So DM6 keeps crashing.

Seems the crash occurs for people who use DM6 on Windows 7 32bit or 64bit AND need to synchronize with Outlook 2010.

That problem is NOT resolved, no fix is provided and it is most definitely RIM's problem, not our, not the users' problem.    I have a brand new laptop, it is so new that it runs nothing other than Windows 7 and Office 2010 (and McAfee trial which I disabled anyway).

So the only app I have tried to install is DM6 and I am still  trying!

So people using DM5 on Windows 7 with Outlook 2007, fine.   Even I can install DM5 no problem, but it won't work with OUtlook 2010 so what's the point!

And it seems that people who use DM6 on Windows 7 iwth Outlook 2007, seems fine.  This should help RIM narrow the problem!

Can we hear from ANYONE out there using the very latest most up to date version of Windows 7 (whatever edition, whether 32 or 64 bit)  AS WELL AS Outlook/Office 2010.  Anyone like that able to get DM6 working AND synchronise with Outloook 2010?

Re: Desktop Manager 6.0 Crashing

Dear Gastroguy

You have a great idea there, we should take this up.  I will certainly post a link to this blog conversation in the blog of a number of IT trade rags... and draw their attention to this.
