Desktop Manager problems PLEASE HELP ME I AM GOING NUTS!

I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous versions of the Device/Desktop Manager and only just NOW did it successfully install. When i open it up it and connect my phone it says Connected...HOWEVER, I do not see an OPTIONS menu, none of the buttons appear to work, also, when i first started the program it said my phone software was to be updated...the screen on my blackberry storm then went to the sync screen (white background with the 2 icons, arrows) It has been like this for about 20 minutes...nothing appears to change....?

I since rebooted and scanned computer to check for trojan/virus activity. I even did a repair...it all says it has been successful. So, I open desktop manager again...none of the buttons work, no options menu...it tells me its gonna update my phone and i get the background...still no update...This is so frustrating please help if you can... Thanks

Because your carrier is your customer support first line of support. Have you called your carrier support center?

Regardless, you are here now.

Do this:

Disconnect your BlackBerry from the USB cable. Close Desktop Manager.

On your PC, open Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and find the Desktop Manager software, and click on it and you will see Change/Remove. Click on that. Follow the ensuing prompts Next > Modify > Next > etc, at toward the end you will see THREE check boxe:

REMOVE the check mark from

-Start BlackBerry Desktop Manager each time the computer starts

-Check for Software updates.

Click Install and let the install/modifications to the software take place.

Now, it should work better for you.

Good luck.

Re: Desktop Manager problems PLEASE HELP ME I AM GOING NUTS!

I appreciate the help, but no..unfortunately that did not help. I'm beginning to wonder if it is a display issue? It loads completely...and none of the menu selections are grayed out (application loader/backup & restore/etc...) I can even hover over them, triggering the hightlighted rollover...but clicking on them does absolutely nothing...connected bberry does changes status to Connected...all this really seems to be working fine (other than it wont update my storm) this is why i think perhaps im missing something that would allow me to view it correctly? xp...have all latest updates....

Re: Desktop Manager problems PLEASE HELP ME I AM GOING NUTS!

So making all those changes and adjustments to the installation of your Desktop Manager made no changes?

I am afraid that you didn't follow the instructions clearly then.

I am really confused by this ^^  What do you mean, "all this really seems to be working fine" yet you indicate nothing works?

huh? Please help me understand what you are trying to do.

You want to update the OS on your Storm? Don't use Destop Manager.

Here is the latest carrier released OS 5.0 for the 9530 Storm (is that your model?)

http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-9500-series-discussion-storm/208388-latest-os-9530-5-0-0-508...

Now, follow those instructions in the link EXACTLY as written.

I would recommend doing a backup of your device first using Destop Manager. That does work now, or it doesn't?

Also, I would recommend Desktop Manager, version 5, Service Pack 1, withOUT the Media Manager. Download Desktop Manager from here:

Re: Desktop Manager problems PLEASE HELP ME I AM GOING NUTS!

the changes did nothing...

when i connect the blackberry with a usb cable the top left hand corner of my desktop manager goes from Disconnected to Connected. HOWEVER, i am unable to click on any of the buttons (menu selections such as restore and backup, synchronize, etc) they do highlight when i roll over them...but they do nothing when i click on them...and i dont see an Options on the left hand side (like i saw in the pictures ive looked at)

i have tried installing older versions, with and without the language/media pack...nothing seems to be working...

Ok, simple enough.  Then you didn't follow the instructions.

Try these steps for a clean uninstall of Desktop Manager, first off:

KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software

Then, reinstall DM, the newest version 5, Service Pack 1, withOUT the Media Manager.

Download Desktop Manager from here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22

Good luck.

Re: Desktop Manager problems PLEASE HELP ME I AM GOING NUTS!

ive done 3 clean removals and installed every single version of the 5.0.1 software (with or without the media pack) i dont know which instructions you are talking about but i know how to install this software...the link where i could upgrade my storm without installing desktop manager actually installed desktop manager again...and the same things are happening. it does not display the full menu selections...and i cannot click on any of these selections. ( i click on backup and restore and nothing happens.)

Re: Desktop Manager problems PLEASE HELP ME I AM GOING NUTS!

OK I did neglect to do this step!

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\ and rename the InstallShield folder to InstallShield_Old.

when trying to rename my InstallShield...it says access is denied...make sure the disk is not fully protected...etc...

should i continue without doing this step?
