Re: Blackberry Desktop Manager Software version 6 wont start??

Oh, I forgot to mention that when I launch Desktop Software 6, Rim.Desktop.Autoupdate would crash too. The program itself would only crash when I click on "Configure Settings..." in "Organiser".

Re: Blackberry Desktop Manager Software version 6 wont start??

I managed to fix my issue. Please see this post for what I did and how to do it. It may or may not work for you depending on the issue. Mine was registry key permission.

**SOLVED** Re: Desktop Software version 6 wont start??

[ Edited ]

I managed to solve the problem as detailed at the end of this post.

Hi

Blackberry DM 6.0.0 was working fine.

After upgrading to version 6.0.1 the program crashes on the splash screen.

The log file shows the following error: Any ideas what the problem is?

|FATAL|1|Exception|0|Fatal Error - Inner Exception
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager, Version=6.0.1.18, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

   at Microsoft.Practices.ObjectBuilder2.BuildPlanStrategy.PreBuildUp(IBuilderContext context)
   at Microsoft.Practices.ObjectBuilder2.StrategyChain.ExecuteBuildUp(IBuilderContext context)

Thanks!

Solution:

I noticed the file Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager is referred to as not found.

I found the Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager.dll file in C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Modules.

For some reason by renaming the file extension to dll.OLD then renaming it back to its original .dll the BDM software found the file and runs without a problem!

Re: Blackberry Desktop Manager Software version 6 wont start??

I have received a different laptop from my corporate office and had to re-load the Desktop Manager version 6. I have a Tour 9630. Laptop is Micro XP pro Version 2002 SP3. Loaded Desktop ok but when it attempts to open I get 2 messages: Rim.Desktop. AutoUpdate has encountered problem and must close and Desktop has encountered problems and must close and doesn't allow me to get any further. I need help.

Thanks

Re: Blackberry Desktop Manager Software version 6 wont start??

[ Edited ]
Unfortunately ,this is a very common problem where Desktop Manager simply fails to launch. I had it happen to me out of the blue when I upgraded to 6.0.1 in mid december of last year, and I've since spent countless hours on the phone with Blackberry tech support and I have yet to make ANY progress to fix the problem whatsoever.  I can't even seem to roll back to 6.0 either...

I am very computer literate, have done literally dozens of uninstall/reinstalls with complete registry purges, etc. Nothing RIM has asked me to try has worked so far......

I'm not giving up but I'm very dissappointed in the code writers for Desktop Manager. This is just way too buggy for such a mission critical "mainstream" application.
I've done a lot of searches, only to find that this has been a very common problem, in various forms, since 2007!
If anyone has found a fix for this, i would be most greatful to learn about what you did.
Thanks!

Re: Blackberry Desktop Manager Software version 6 wont start??

You are lucky. I tried it with XP SP3 on my desktop. No help.

Any other ideas??

Re: Blackberry Desktop Manager Software version 6 wont start??

When I udpated to Desktop Software v6.0.1 B21, it seemed to work fine.  I first uninstalled all the previous OS versions and made sure I had the latest device software intalled on my Torch.  One other factor to consider, I deleted the first contact entry I had in my outlook and on my device.  Perhaps this will allow the sync to reset, but not sure about that.  I did the latter because the Desktop Softwaret seemed to crash right at the point where it started to look at  the address database.

Good luck.
