I unpacked my new BB curve 8520, tried to install desktop software from the CD. Doesnt work. I get the message that the installtion was interrupted. I stopped antivirus. Still didnt work. I downloaded desktop software from the net. Same result. I tried to install from the CD via the exe and msi directly. Didnt work. Im installing on a XP professional laptop with the newest service packs.
Any idea, folks?

You need to shut down ALL processes running on your PC before attempting the install again.
I would suggest turning the computer off and reboot it, closing all running process and then try.

Nothing worked. I started the laptop with a fresh and clean admin account, stopped all applications and antivirus. Still get that message.

I know this first link says it is apply to Desktop Manager version 4.6, but the same error message applies:
KB17544 BlackBerry Desktop Manager fails to install when the current user account has a double-byte character user name
are you getting this error during the initial extaction of the exe file, or during the actual DM installation process?

All is well.
I ran a diagnostic program and found an old desptop 4.2.2 installation. Fortunately the msi was still available. I deinstalled 4.2.2 and installed 5.
Thanks for your time.
