I have XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP3. I tried installing the newest version of BDM ver. 6.2 which I downloaded from RIM. The received the error while loading: "Balckberry Desktop Software has encountered an error and must close..."
I uninstalled and removed all registry entries and RIM folders and and also used a system cleaner (CCleaner). I reinstalled again and the error still occurs. RIM.destophelper.exe does load to system tray. There are no error codes of any kind associated with this failure to load.
Any help trouble shooting this would be appreciated.

Hey charliemopic,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Just to clarify you installed BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1? Also does it install with no issue?
Do you have any additional users created on the computer? I would try accessing DTM by using another admin account to see if the issue persists.

My mistake, ver 6.1.
| Download Details | |
| Software Name: | Desktop Software v6.1.0 B34 |
| File Name: | 610_b034_multilanguage.exe |
| Download Size: | 114.873 MB |
| Published Date: | 06/08/2011 |
I have tried installing from two different admin accounts. the software installed with no errors. I get the loading splash screen and then the error. Is there an error log I can check or any services that need to run?
Thank you.

I also noticed that RIMBBLaunchAgent.exe as well as RIM.desktophelper.exe are loaded processes in task manager, If that helps ![]()

Hey charliemopic,
Thanks for the quick reply.
It's highly possible that something in the task manager could be conflicting with the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
Go into Start>Run and type in msconfig and disable all start-up items. Restart the computer and then attempt to open BlackBerry Desktop Software.
Let me know if the issue persists or if you're able to use the program.

I ran msconfig and removed all items from startup and rebooted. The same error continues to appear when loading "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Rim.Desktop.exe". If it should run in safe mode, it does not and I receive the same error.
Thanks again for your help.

Thanks again for the quick reply.
Is the BlackBerry connected the whole time when you're trying to open BlackBerry Desktop Software?
And just to clarify you did perform all these steps when you uninstalled the previous software: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
Because that error will appear if some old DTM files are still present on the computer.

I did as you said with no success. I also tried before this attempt:
Are there any services associated with BDM that I can check?
Thanks for your kind patience

I get a similar problem with my Destop Software. Mine loads just fine but it starts looking for updates and then get the error "Handheld Application Loader Wizard has crashed and needs to close. The file loader.exe is the app that fails and loader.exe is the mod that causes the issue. I cannot update my device(torch 9800). Of view Applications through the Desktop software without the Handheld Application Loader Wizard crashing. I uninstalled and reinstalled. the 6.1 version and gets the error. But the a previous version 6.01 seems to work fine except when trying to update the device it want to upgrade itself first. Haven't had much success with this software.
