Failed to load media | iTunes is not installed

Hello forum,

i am experiencing some problems with Media Sync.

When i start the application i receive the msg: Failed to load media.

Within the options the preferred music library  "iTunes version 7.7.1 or greater is required" is selected but greyed.

On the main screen i can switch to Windows Media Player Playlists (nothing in there - wich is correct). When i switch back to iTunes Playlists, it tells me: iTunes is not installed.

Within the options the preferred music library  "Windows Media Player" is now selected and "iTunes version 7.7.1 or greater is required" is greyed.

Here is what i tried so far:

  • reinstalling iTunes
  • reinstalling Media Sync
  • deleting the %appdata%\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Media Sync-Folder
  • formating the media card

Here is my setup:

  • MS Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3
  • MS .NET 3.5 SP 1 (and prior versions with latest SPs)
  • iTunes 9.0.2.25 (iTunes Plus, so no DRM)
  • BB Desktop Manager 5.0.1.28
  • BB Media Sync 3.0.0.38
  • BB Pearl 8110 corporate

This is the log:

Re: Failed to load media | iTunes is not installed

Hi Entro:

This might be a problem with running on a localized operating system.   We’re still investigating the root cause.

However, I have a suggested workaround – if you can try it and let us know if it works, that would be great.

1.       Close MediaSync and iTunes

2.       Hold down the shift key and double click your iTunes icon.  Keep holding, and a little dialog should come up that says ‘Choose Library’

3.       Hit ‘create library’

4.       Navigate to a folder like c:\myituneslibrary – you’ll have to create this folder.  It’s important that you create this folder outside of the standard ‘My Documents’ or ‘My Music’ location

5.       Hit ok, iTunes will launch.  Import a few of your songs into this new library.

6.       Launch MediaSync

Hopefully Media Sync will launch and iTunes will load properly.

Cheers

M

Re: Failed to load media | iTunes is not installed

I tried that work around, but MediaSync still says "itunes not installed" What happened? Should I go back to the old Media Sync? I got a new storm2 about a week ago and transferred music with no problem. Now with 3.0 itunes is grayed out.:smileysad: (I am not a fan of Windows Media Player)

Re: Failed to load media | iTunes is not installed

I would read the post very carefully. I have just attempted the instructions above and have lost my whole library, playlists and purchased songs, my itunes was installed on an external hardrive too! So now I have nothing left and am very unhappy!
