Desktop Software for PC

I am getting very, VERY frustrated after spending a whole day on trying to get the Media Manager working and now I find it is best to install USB drivers and skip the Media Manager altogether.

I downloaded:

BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers ENG (DM4.5 B13).msi

BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers_ENG (DM4.6b13).msi

This driver mentioned in this thread:

downloads as 0 bytes from Blackberry.com

I have the Desktop Software v. 4.7andaBlackberryStorm

Now how do I go about installing these drivers? I can't find instructions anywhere.

Hi,

Use the following link to completely uninstall the desktop software.

Download the USB drivers from this site use the correct drivers for DM 4.7.

Elect the save to disk option at download. Then execute the file from

the hard drive.

Cold boot the PC and the install desktop manager.

Kill all virus checkers, firewalls, as many programs in background as you can.

If running Modem Shark or a third party USB manager close them.

If a Vista user make sure you have full system administrator rights on your

PC Vista login.

Please provide the proper link.

Also when you say to execute the file from the HDD.

I hope it is an exe file and not an msi file. If it is an

msi file I have no idea how to execute it.

you can find the link by :

• clicking on the "SOFTWARE" button on top of this page
• then on the "Desktop software for PC" on the bottom right corner of the new page
• then click on the download button
• then choose the USB drivers you want.

I installed the drivers, rebooted, took down all apps and installed the Desktop Manger v.4.7

and the Blackberry was seen by Windows as another drive. I could drag and drop files no problem.

But after I rebooted my computer. The Blackberry is no longer seen by Windows.

This seems to be a lot more buggy than it should be.

There has to be a better way.

I have the same problem with my BlackBerry 8900 Curve (4.6.1.101). Neither my Laptop nor my Desktop PC (both running Win XP SP3) recognize the BB as a mass storage device. The settings are as they should be within the BB.

I tried every hint from this post and searched the web, no success so far, deinstalled Desktop Manager 4.7, installed the usb drivers (4.5) etc., nothing helps.

I'm using a Sandisk 8 GB SDHC memory card. The BB recognizes the card without problems. The card also works when connected with an adapter directly to the PC, I also formated it several times in the BB and I also rebooted the BB by removing the battery while running.

I even tried replacing the usbstor.inf with a 'fresh' one from http://www.infdump.com/, still no success.

When connected to the PC, it doesn't show up in the device manager or the storage manager (where you see all partitions and can alter the drive letters, don't know how it's called when Windows is set to English language). 

Now I'm running out of ideas. As I see it, maybe the issue is linked to specific memory cards (unlikely so far in my opinion with SanDisk) or maybe it's a strange issue with Win XP (maybe related to installed software, maybe not.....?) combined with issues in the BB firmware and/or the usb drivers/Desktop Software. There must be something, how else is it otherwise possible, that it works flawlessly for some people and for some it doesn'T work at all?  (

If anyone has further ideas, I'd appreciate it, I'd also volunteer for testing beta drivers or stuff like that....it's quite frustrating, since I'm otherwise extremely happy with the device.

Update:

Since I have several colleagues that also have 8900s, we found out something interesting. We all got the devices directly from RIM in Germany during a training and it seems that there are different production charges. The most obvious difference is the trackball. Normally it's black (that's what we have been told) and we have some 8900s, where the trackball is white (mine included). There's also a difference in the bracket, which holds the memory card. The black trackball version has a little more plastic surrounding the bracket and seems to hold the card a little more thoroughly.

Anyway, the mass storage function works without a problem with the black trackball 8900. We also exchanged memory cards, same problem occurs, white trackball version is not recognized as mass storage, black trackball version works flawlessly. We tested this with several other white trackball versions, none of them were recognized as mass storage (all tested on the same laptop with proper mass storage settings in the 8900).We adressed this to our contacts at RIM in Germany and will see, where this will lead

BTW: I originally had FW 4.6.1.101, but the problem also persists with beta version 4.6.1.152.

2nd Update:

We received feedback that the versions with the white trackball were some sort of beta devices containing several bugs and we'll get replacement devices with 'black balls'

I am new to all of this stuff. I followed all of your directions. My computer appears to detect my bbb. However, My bbb does not prompt me to switch it to a mass media storage device, the clock just pops up. Please help loosing sleep over this .

are you sure your USB port on your PC is ok ?
