Hi I just got a used BlackBerry Curve 8310 from my friend but she didnt have the USB cord and I went to theT-Mobile store and they gave me a USB cord that can be used with others models i asked the guy who worked there that it doesnt match my model and he said that it still made by the blackberry company and it will work. So i got it and now tha i plugged it in the blackberry says its insuficient and i have to download something and the computer doesnt let me put music but the small icon pops up everytime it just doesnt show the folder for me to put the songs. Please help me!!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

Sorry...but...what? I'm trying to figure out what your issues are but the sentence structure you used makes it hard...so I'll guess. If the cord fits, you indeed do need to install the appropriate software on your PC so that it can interact with your BB. Follow these guidelines and you'll have what you need:

The link is a little old and mentions a prior desktop software version...use this to choose the proper version:

Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:

• http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/

• Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):

• KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization

Hopefully that will get things going again.

Hi,

I have configured the media card line as you suggest in your post, however at the end it says "A media card is not presently inserted in the device" - does this mean I need to do something else? When I connect my BB to my PC using the USB cable I cannot get my PC to recognize my BB. This is the problem that I am ultimately trying to solve, so I can open the attachments to my emails, on my PC when not connected to the internet.

Using your BlackBerry browser, can you use the Media card ?

computer OS:  win98se (stuck with ATM)

Is there anyway to do file transfers to the BB?  I mean Desktop Manager 4.7 is where they start having stuff like word document and images being transferable to the BB, but with my computer OS I'm stuck back with DTM 4.1. 

Both the DM 4.1 and device manager do recognize the BB when its connected to USB; however I do not get a drive letter for it (preventing me from doing any drag-and-drop file transfers.

Yeah, I know my BB doesn't have a SD-card, but considering it still has 64 MB of in-built memory (at least half of which is free) you'd think that by setting up the USB drivers that somehow you'd still be able to transfer a few tiny 3k word documents and/or a few small jpg's over to it.  Everything that I've read seems to indicate that BB's with a SD-card should display as 2 drives (one for the card and one for the device itself) and that if the device has no card installed that one drive still appears (the device).

I mean they say that my model is win98 compatible, but then they totally fail to mention that even after you update your BB's OS to 4.5 that all the new features require that your computer have at least XP or better (cause roxio only runs on XP or better). 

I mean I'm a cripple and some days I'm in too much pain to even get out of bed for more than a few minutes.  All I want is to transfer some small texts to by BB for reading/editing.  I don't want some $50/month Rogers plan just to get email service (for using the new email attachment thing) ... especially when the plan has a limit of 500 mb and I'm maybe only looking at using 5mb.  (Nevermind Rogers would need to sell me a $35 SIM card too).

Right now I'm manually unpacking the Desktop Manager 4.7 in the hopes that I can identify the two or three files from it that do the file-transfer stuff and then manually add them into my DM 4.1 (which is a longshot).

If anyone knows of any software that can help me I'd appreciate knowing what it is and where to get it.

I called Verizon and spent over 2 hrs with 3 different techs (from Verizon and Blackberry) trying to solve the problem but could not solve it.  Verizon sent me a replacement phone and the media drive works fine in the new phone.

@MattShokof : if I were you I would try and install windows XP in a virtual machine... like in WINE.

or you can send those files to a friend who can send them to you by MMS.

or you can have a webpage where you would put the files, and download them using BlackBerry Browser.
