Media Sync - error message, doesn't see iTunes playlists

When I start the Media Sync program on my XP machine I immediately get a pop up that says the program has encountered an error and needs to close. It is the most recent version. This problem seems to not to be affected by whether or not Media Sync is started alone or through the Desktop manager.

 

However, the program opens, and acts like it is running anyway. (Just ignore the pop up.) A week ago, it was seeing my iTunes library and I could use it to put music from a playlist onto my Tour. Now, however, it does not see the iTunes library/playlist. It says it my library contains no songs. Sometimes, multiple attempts to start it it, it will see them, but then I cannot click the boxes that allow me to choose the playlist to sync them to the BB.

 

Any help? Sure would be nice to use the Media Sync program as it was designed. 

 

Any thoughts?

Usually they request a log.  You can find other related posts that tell where to find the log if you need.

 

Strange that it works sometimes!

Looks like this problem:

Here are the steps to follow to fix this issue:

- Start->run, type ‘regedit’, enter

- Navigate the tree to this location:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Media Sync\Settings

- You should see a setting on the right called “PictureImportPath”

 

Before you do anything, can you take note of what the current value in the ‘Data’ column is? 

 

To fix the problem, double click ‘PictureImportPath’ and change the value data to a valid folder path on your computer.  Ie C:\MediaSyncImportPath

Hit Ok.  Close Regedit.  Restart the application.

The entry in the data path was \\dc1\Jely$\MyPictures\Blackberry

 

Changing it did allow Media Sync to start up properly.

 

However, Media Sync still reports that it sees no songs in my iTunes library.

 

One problem fixed, and thanks very much for that.

When I start the now working Media Sync it says it doesn't see the iTunes library.  I erased and recreated the iTunesMusicLibrary.xml file. No luck. I tried converting some songs to AAC format. No luck.  There are no "bad" songs in the library. At some point in those processes, MediaSync recoginzed that there were playlists and songs in iTunes, but the check boxes to select which ones to sync were grayed out, and could not be selected. But, when I closed and restarted MediaSync, it went back to claiming there are no songs in the iTunes library.

 

Someone here fixed the grayed out problem by changing the storage location from the SD card to the device memory and then back to the SD card, but that window is also grayed out, and cannot be changed from the SD card.

 

Any other thoughts?

Hi jhe888:

 

Are your songs stored on a network drive?  Media Sync doesn’t support music on network shares and will ‘grey out’ any playlists that have all the songs on the network. Media Sync grey outs playlists when all the tracks are unsupported or unavailable.

 

If not, can you run and copy the log again please?

I am not sure what you mean by a network drive. I moved my iTunes folders from \\dc1\JEly$\MyMusic\iTunes\iTunesMusic to C:\Documents and Settings\John Ely\My Documents\My Music\iTunes 

 

Is that what you mean? If not, I am at a loss.

 

When I first start the Media Sync, it can't find songs in the library at all - it says there are no songs in the library. If I then open iTunes, and monkey around in it a little - for example, move some songs into a play list, then Media Sync finds the songs and playlists, but they are still grayed out.
