Hi all!
Just got my very first BB - the Curve 8330.
I'm trying to install the desktop manager software (version 4.5) from the CD provided with the phone (Sprint). I tried twice with no success and the same result - it hangs / freezes near the end of installation. It says it should "take several minutes", but an hour? I didn't think it would take that long.
I'd try to cancel the installation but nothing would happen and I'd end up having to force it closed with the Task Manager. The icons would appear but the program itself wouldn't do much. Because of the partial install, I couldn't uninstall it or restart the installation. Had to do system restore to get rid of it.
I did this twice!! So now, I am currently downloading version 5.0 from this website (w/o the Media Manager that seems to cause a problems) and seeing how it goes.
Did anyone else have this problem? Should I have waited longer?

I should also add that I'm running Win XP.

I have the BB Storm 9530 and while the BBs are different the Desktop Manager S/W is I imagine the same. It does take a very long time to install.
It tried my patience but I decided to simply take its time and it does install.
I like you thought it was permanently hung up and was about to do what you apparently did and stop the installation but I resisted the temptation.

Thanks for replying. I tried it one more time and I let it sit for almost 3 hours. At this point, I call BS. The computer is not doing anything. Looking at the task manager, the installer is not using any resources. It's just plain not working. I'm not a computer whiz, so not comfortable with editing the registry or any of that stuff. Do I really need this thing? The only reason I'd want to hook the BB up to the computer is to get the photos off of it, but if all I need is a media card reader, then I'll just do that instead. My computer is just plain rejecting this software.
I did download the newest version and it didn't work either, but I got a different error msg about the wizard having to quit or something like that.

After much frustration, I tried one last thing. After it being hung up for three hours, I restarted my computer (using the power button on the machine, because any other way would not have worked). I restarted with the installation progress bar still up and "running".
I then ran the software disk and tried to install again. It recognized that I had partially installed the DM software and it gave me the option to Modify, Repair, and one other thing (cannot remember). I chose to repair. This completed the installation process!
When I did this install, I did it without the Media Manager. After "repairing", I was able to go back install the Media Manager without any problems.
What a relief to be able to backup my BB!
