Unable to synchronize- Internal Error #4238

Synchronizing daily without any problems, today I'm getting  Error Notice that says: DUPLICATE RECORDS FOUND ON THE DEVICE....when I open the configuration tab and View Log it lists Internal Error 4238..with not much options. I have rebooted my computer, I have rebooted my BB, taken the battery out and replaced, to no avail. Help!

Re: Unable to synchronize- Internal Error #4238

I have been having similar problems with several blackberries in my office.  We have four, and it seems to affect only two blackberry/computer partnerships.  The only way I have found to fix this when it happens is this:

- Plug the blackberry into the USB cable.  Start Desktop Manager.  When the sync starts to run, cancel it so it doesn't crash.

- Click on "Synchronization", click on "Configuration" Tab, click on "Configure Sync".  Go into sync settings for each application you have enabled, i.e. calendar, contacts, notes, tasks.

- Set it to "One way sync to Device" and check the box to "replace all data in the target application". Make sure you set each application up this way.

- Run sync

- Reset the setup to the way you want it.

If someone finds a solution to stop this problem from happening, I'd like to know about it.  In my view this is a bug that needs fixing.

Re: Unable to synchronize- Internal Error #4238

I figured a few things out and managed to fix this.

  1. Go into Synchronize / Configuration - VIEW LOG and see where the error is occuring.  In my case, it was the calendar.  But in other cases, it might be contacts.
  2. Get out of Synch, and go into BackUp and Restore, click on Advanced.  ON right side, you will see Device Databases - choose the offending database (calendar in my case) and clear it, then close out of that window.
  3. go back into SYNCH - CONFIGURATION and try again.  If it STILL fails, repeat step 2, then you might want to try and device overright - ie choose a one way config from Outlook to device as stated in previous post.
  4. Once its done successfully, you can reset all the synch options back to normal (back to 2 say synch etc.)

Re: Unable to synchronize- Internal Error #4238

This last post worked for me too.  I am not using Enterprise Server - just internet email with Outlook 2003 (and cardscan, which wasn't an issue here).  This fix will cause you to lose the data in the particular devise database that you delete (in my case, Calendar) but when you re-sync, the only data lost permanently is the data added to the devise since the last syncronization.  Thanks to the above contributors for taking the time to post their issue/solutions.

Re: Unable to synchronize- Internal Error #4238

One additional thought - In troubleshooting this issue I uninstalled BB Desktop 4.7 and reinstalled 4.3.  Although that didn't solve the problem, I learned that the 4.3 version reads databases MUCH faster.  New isn't always better, and I'm glad I kept a copy of the uninstalled earlier version!

Re: Unable to synchronize- Internal Error #4238

Hmm... I did that on a new Blackberry Bold 9780 (OS 6) and had the same problem.

I managed to sync my "task" and "notes" list on Outlook 7 with the Bold 9780 with no issues. But when I tried to sync the "Calendar" and "Address Book", it failed. Opening the log file, I discovered this error:

Internal Error #4238.

I googled it and came up with nothing that worked. Stuff I tried:
1) Cleared the database using the "Advanced" function in "Backup and Restore" but that didn't help either.
2) Deleted the "IntelliSync" folder and re-configured the sync and tried it again. Nada.
3) Created a new empty profile on Outlook 2007 with no calendar or address book entries just in case there are some corrupted entries there, reconfigured DM 5.0.1 to sync from that and overwrite all data on my Bold 9780 and that didn't work either.
4) To be sure, I even tried to sync from Yahoo. And those DM did successfully log in, the same error as above pop up.
I would hazard a guess that DM 5.0.1 is not able to open the Bold 9870's database. Not sure why.
I think I should mention at this point that I am using Windows 7 Pro Edition and Outlook 2007. I am not using any enterprise nor any wireless sync. All I am trying to do is to get my address book and calendar entries onto that DARN Bold 9780 with the supplied cable.
I am thinking that maybe DM 5.0.1 may not be able to access the database on my Bold because it's running OS6.
Any ideas?
