Updateing phone software via BDM 6.1

Hi

When I connect my 8520 to BDM 6.1 I get a message that an update to version 5.0 bundle 1168 is available.

I click to install (twice) and get a message that" An updated Blackberry Desktop Software componant must be installed before you can continue" I click Install and get

 

 

This sort of makes sense as I started off trying to update the phone and I guess this is still in progress.

 

I've been around this loop several times without success, I've tried different computer (XP, Vista and 7). I've checked for updates to BDM. Now I'm stuck, any suggestions?
