Windows 7 wants to reformat my phone when I use Desktop Software

I plugged my Curve 9360 into the Desktop software prog version 7.1.0.32 on my PC and received a Windows pop-up message as follows:

"You need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it.

Do you want to format it?"

The options were "Format disk" and "Cancel"

Obviously I pressed Cancel, but what on earth is going on???

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Windows 7 wants to reformat my phone when I use Desktop Software

Hello Yelizaveta and welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.

Do you have a Media Card inserted in your BlackBerry® Curve™ 9360 smartphone? If so, this message would be in reference to it.

When you go to use your device as a Mass Storage device, if your card is not formatted the computer will not be able to access your card.

If you remove your media card then reinsert it into your device, do you get any error message on your device? If so, what?

Thanks!

Re: Windows 7 wants to reformat my phone when I use Desktop Software

Hi HMthePirate and many thanks for your reply.

I did check the media card on the BB and didn't get any error messages on removal and replacement.

My problem is now looking as though it's a PC issue and not my Blackberry, as I also have an external hard drive which I use for backups, and the PC is unable to read that either.... says I must format before use and "Does not contain a recognised file system"

I did have to do a System Restore on the PC a few weeks ago, when an anti-virus software upgrade went belly-up, so I'm guessing that that's where the problem started... sigh.

Quite where I go from here, I don't know. I'll have to speak to some of my more PC-savvy friends I guess.... double sigh!!!

Many thanks again,

Liz
