On my phone it is saying I have a software update but on my blackberry desktop software its coming up with nothing. I need help because my phone is refusing to find service anywhere and just wont work

What version of BlackBerry Desktop Software do you have installed? Does your computer connect to the internet sucessfully? Does the BlackBerry Desktop Software recognize and connect with your BlackBerry smartphone when its connected via USB? Are you able to take a backup file sucessfully?
