I don't use email on my phone.
At the " Defualt placement for new items items" I have two items:
Calendar (CICAL) defaulting to BBM Groups and
Contact List (SYNC): defaulting to Desktop

Oh,... well there's your problem, since there is no email account, it 'grabs' the next thing available, your BBM Group as default.

I never have had my email account set up and I was just fine with calendar.

...until you created a BBM Group.

What do you mean?

When you created that BBM Group, having calendar abilities, your device "attached" itself (for lack of a better word) itself to the BBM Group as your email source.

I now longer have any groups. What now how do I get rid of BBM groups from my default service and put it back to outlook?

From what you've told me, Outlook was never your default service.
Your former default service was just "default" however once you added a BBM Group, it started using that as the sync mechanism. i do not know that you can undo that.
The only way I can think of is to wipe your device and start with a fresh new BlackBerry.
