BIS & Gmail Calendar sync (without googlesync)

Hello everybody!

I have a problem with configuring Gmail Calendar & Contacts synchronization directly (using BIS) without googlesync application. According to the instruction it is necessary to login into the BIS account and check synchronize calendar & contacts checkboxes for gmail account. I did that. And now it says:

-------

If you have not already done so, to start calendar and contact synchronization, complete the security activation on your BlackBerry® device:

1. On the Home screen, click the Setup icon and click Email Accounts or Email Settings.

2. After you open the application, the security activation starts. When security activation is complete, calendar and contact synchronization automatically begins.

----

This is where I've got stuck. I just can't run this Email Settings application.

When I go to "Setup" and open "Email Accounts", then "Internet Mail Account" it opens a browser and a web-site for email setup (but not the application!!!).

And there is no "security activation" feature....

It is really strange that such simple thing just can't be done. Syncing Contacts and Calendar without googlesync app would save battery and work more efficient...

Is there any workaround to pass this "security activation" somehow ? Or run Email Setup application instead of the web-site?

Really want to get this working.

Thank you!

/Andrii

Re: BIS & Gmail Calendar sync (without googlesync)

[ Edited ]

I had trouble getting the E-mail Setup process to work at all as I always used the BIS/VZW website, had to wipe and reload device.  I did get the security verification window on the device, just had to enter my password twice.

But, I'm still waiting for my calendar entries to sync, has not net (hours).

Update:  After I went into my e-mail, options, e-mail account management, signed in with my BlackBerry Account, then activated synchronization, it worked great.  I was concerned about losing our shared calendar, but since I have an e-mail address for that account on my device, it works better than Google Sync.  Now I can add calendar entries for each account.  The sync back from Google to BB is taking a little longer than expected, but from BB to Google was quick.

Hi!

That's good for you :smileyhappy:

Unfortunately I still have the problem and instead of application for E-Mail management I get my carrier's web-site. I can setup E-mail there, but no activation is possible.

Google Sync is gonna be unsupported soon.

RIM Support, can you say something ?

Thank you!

My situation was very similar, backup/install via Desktop allowed me to use the device e-mail management. Good luck.

Re: BIS & Gmail Calendar sync (without googlesync)

I'm doing regular OS upgrades that means the OS was installed from desktop several times.

I googled and found that "5 Click [BrowserConfig]" serivce book should be present on BB.

So probably you received it just after backup/install from your carrier.

I have no such service book on my BB... It should be sent by mobile carrier I think, but if my carrier doesn't send such service book, how to solve the problem....

Here is the description for all service books, include "5 Click [BrowserConfig]"
