Blackberry deleting old Calendar entries? Any other user data it deletes without warning?

I started using a Berry for the first time in early 2009 - a Storm 1. Prior to that, my Palm had all of my Calendar entries since I started using a PDA in 1992. Very useful to refer to notes and attendees from old meetings, great backup for expense claims and income tax, etc.

However, somehow I've lost all Calendar entries prior to Aug 11/07. I have one older backup that may give me data back to Dec 2005 but that's it. I'm running a Telus Storm with .122 , DM 5.0.0.11 (Telus official releases), and Outlook 2003.

I first noticed after upgrading my Telus Storm from .76 to .122 that the DM sync got way faster. I also had the first occurrence with my DM Sync where it wanted to delete hundreds - over a thousand - Calendar entries at a time. Fortunately I have DM set to prompt for deletions and Rejected. Unfortunately it appears I Accepted once when I shouldn't have - I'm guessing that's why it got so much faster. Oh, and I have DM set to keep Calendar entries forever.

I've done a lot of research and it seems that this is a known part of life with a Berry and they were designed to do that in cases of low memory. However, this has happened to me (and others it seems) repeatedly when I've had 12MB free, which I'm told is a lot. Even if I have low memory, I'm surprised that something touted as "the" device for business users would delete user data without prompting. And I must admit, it would have been nice to know about this when I bought the device.

Has anyone else here experienced this? Can anyone shed some light on the conditions that trigger the deletion of user data? Perhaps even on how to prevent this from happening in the future? If I know what the causes are I may be able to work around them.

TIA - R.

Interesting - 91 views and no replies? No one else has run into this? No help or ideas? No one is even surprised?
