You are right about language support.
RIM enable Ukrainian language for 35 millions of Ukrainian-speaking perspective users.

Late reply, but there's a solution for Ukrainian speakers:
http://blackberry.beiks.com/BlackBerry-Ukrainian-K
Free trial, $14USD
RIM really should think and finally include the Ukrainian keyboard layout in the multi-language versions of BB's OS in all future releases/updates. Ukraine is a very important and potentially large market for RIM.

This is ridiculous. That BlackBerry does not support the Ukrainian language, leaving it to third-party developers to come up with solutions, is a slap in the face of 46 million Ukrainians.
I was seriously thinking about buying the BlackBerry Bold 9930, but now I favor the Samsung Galaxy S 2.
Get with the program BlackBerry (I hope you're not doing all your business in Ukraine via Moscow, that would be your first mistake))).

I use Word Substitution feature as a workaround of the problem.
You can add substitution rules for ґ, є, і and ї, for example:
=======
Replace: и*
With: і
Using: SmartCase
Language: All Locales
=======
Replace: и**
With: ї
Using: SmartCase
Language: All Locales
=======
Replace: е*
With: є
Using: SmartCase
Language: All Locales
=======
Replace: г*
With: ґ
Using: SmartCase
Language: All Locales
=======
So, to input Україна:
It's ugly but works.
