Hi,
I am looking for a Bold OS loader file for Japanese Character Input Support.
I have seen the file below.
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.0.243 (EastAsia)
Applications: 4.6.0.126
Software Platform: 4.0.0.135
File name: 9000EastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel243_PL4.0.0.135_A4.6.0.12
Does anyone know at all if above file would actually allow Bold user to type Japanese Character.
I appreciate your advise and thanks in advance.
Kindest regards,
M

No - it works for display but not for input. Not sure if there is a solution yet.
I've tried forcing the 8707h loader files (that do work for Japanse input) onto the Bold, including the Shift_JIS.cod file which is missing from the latest firmware and still no luck.

Hi,
I have just found the solution to this.
Can you go to the following link and select the provider from Asia Pacific.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/dow
Then download the file called
9000jEastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel292_PL4.0.0.155_A4.6.0.1
Where xxx is provider name.
It must be 9000jEastAsia one.
Then loaded this OS via Desktop Manager Ver 4.6 then should be able to add Japanese Ro-maji input.

Agreed - tested with the .162 release for Hong Kong CSL wireless. Now time to try AT&T .167.
The jEastAsia release is definitely the key.

Hi there,
I tried to do the same without updating the OS since by adding the "platform.alx" file to the "CJK.alx" file because alot of my service provider's factory settings get deleted. so i tried to manually edit the "platform.alx" file to only add the "Japanese Romajin Input Method" but the desktop manager always returns with an error message saying:
Invalid Configuration
The application "Japanese Romajin Input Method" cannot be loaded because it requires the following applications that are not available: net.rim.platform.lang.ja
Is there any way i can add the japanese input by overriding the error message by editing the "platform.alx" file? i feel i'm very close but i have hit a dead end.
Can anyone hlep me out.
Regards,
AmA

Hi AmA,
I am not quite sure which environment you are using your BB.
But I use mine under BES / Exchange Environment.
What I do to Update the Firmware is to connect up the device to BES admin console with top level priviledge.
This will give you an option to NUKE the device.
When NUKING device has completed then you can install OS firmware from the scratch.
I tried to over write the OS but Romaji input never worked.
Also when you are using OS firware other than your own airtime provider then make sure to delete vendor.xml file.
Cheers
