I am wanting to set up a secure email service for my business using blackberries. We current run an email server, that uses SSL and alternate ports to deliver email securely to desktop/laptop clients like Outlook. Works great. But I don't know how to make it work on Blackberries. There is a way to configure an email account through Blackberry.com using SSL and alternate ports, but it cannot send using alternate ports, and the security policy is compromised by giving the password to Blackberry.com. Furthermore, I don't know if the channel from Blackberry.com to my handheld is secure. I suspect that it is not. I would like to have control over the security all the way to the handheld. Is this possible? -Tim

Your BIS account email is encrypted.
Here is how your BIS email goes from blackberry, with capital E means encrypted:
device -E-> carrier -E-> RIM (Canada) -> Internet
Here is how it comes to your device from Internet:
Internet -> RIM (Canada) -E-> carrier -E-> device
So, if you wanted an additional layer of security, you might look in to PGP for the BlackBerry.
But it is pretty much solid already.
