lost 3rd party app compatibility

I have a BB Curve 8530 (Verizon Wireless). On March 22nd a device software upgrade was applied 5.0.0.508. That upgrade caused some of my 3rd party apps to have issues with some functionality in particular anything to do with "virtual serial ports". A prime example is the IntelliGolf app that had been working on perfectly prior to the upgrade. Once the upgrade was applied the application on the device was no longer able to sync any information with their Desktop application as it does not recognize that there is a USB connection. I raised the issue with the other software vendor and was told that there would need to be a RIM patch to address the backward compatibility issue. The other option would be for me to revert to a previous RIM device software version. I don't know where to find an acceptable "previous version" nor do I think it's advisable for me to address this issue without direction from RIM My question is this, will there be a patch to address this issue? If so, when? If not, what should I do get my applications working again? Thanks

Re: lost 3rd party app compatibility

Unfortunately, RIM never provides dates or information on unreleased software.  The 5.0 update seems to break a few things (typical with these updates) and if you really need this app to work then downgrading is the only option at this point.  If Verizon can't point you to it you can use any carrier's OS on the device as long as it's for the 8530.

Do you recall the version it had prior to the upgrade?  I may be able to direct you to a download of that version.

thanks for the reply.  I think it worked on 4.7.  I tried uninstalling the Desktop software and reinstalling 4.7 and them tried to revert to 4.7 on the device but their was no rollback option just two different ver of 5.0.

Any thoughts ...

Re: lost 3rd party app compatibility

The Desktop Manager version has nothing to do with the OS version.  I would reinstall the latest Desktop Manager version.

What versions of the 5.0 OS are listed in Desktop Manager?  I don't think the 8530 ever came with 4.7 OS.  I think it always had a version of 5.0.

Re: lost 3rd party app compatibility

Try downgrading to the .337 version.  That's most likely what was on it before you upgraded.

The Desktop Manager version has nothing to do with the OS version installed on the Handheld device.  Two totally different things.

I would guess that you HAD 5.0.0.337 on the device.  Then you upgraded to 5.0.0.508 on the device.

Your Desktop manager version was probably 5.0.1.37 or thereabouts.  Downgrading the Desktop Manager version to 4.7.x.xx won't change what OS you have installed on the device.  You may gain or lose features or bugs in the Desktop manager application but it will have no effect on the device or it's software version.
