I believe that mobile applications must have trial period to let customers evaluate the product.
Otherwise customer pays money for a pig in a poke.
At least it is not honest, unless there is an unconditional and easy money-back.

Unfortunately, App World's Try&Buy system has problems of its own. You should see the Try&Buy thread on the App World dev forum. In one case, the system is delivering the trial version of my software when a customer pays for it. Until such problems are fixed, I can understand developers being reluctant to use the Try&Buy system. It's been a big headache for me.
