Cannot set up BBM or add a new e-mail

After installing BBM, I try to start the setting up process where it tells me "cannot set up BBM, a temporary BBM server error has occured".

I've tried deleting it in order to reinstall it but I can't even delete it.

I also went to enterprise activation where the status says: not activated - is this related?

When I try adding an e-mail it states "your device had a problem connecting to the server"

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Gratefully,

Christine

Re: Cannot set up BBM or add a new e-mail

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Delete and Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Reboot

  • Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
  • See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then may want to contact your mobile service provider for formal support and to be sure that you are subscribed to an adequate data plan (from them) that is sufficient for the services you desire to use.

Details on that would help...what, exactly, do you try in order to delete it? What, exactly, happens when you try?

  • KB10040 How to view or remove installed applications on a BlackBerry smartphone
  • You may have to look at more than just the "Third Party" list for BBM

This only applies for BES users...if you are not on BES, then this is normal. However, what does it state for the status of BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service)? It is BIS that you use for both BBM and email...

Good luck!

And, as such, you would fall out of those steps, to where it says words to the effect of "contact your mobile service provider for formal support". That registration message comes from their system, and only they can look "behind the scenes" at their network to figure out why it's not arriving.
