Downloaded update for BBM but my blackberry shut down. Now I can't find the BBM app, help!

While I was downloading the updated version of BBM, my phone shut down and when I opened it again, I couldn't find the BBM app. I even tried to do the unhide thingy. I tried going to bb app world and do it again, but there's no option to install or update. I also tried going on desktop manager and went on the actual site to download bbm, send my phone the link to download it, but always came up short. Does anyone know what I can do? I also tried to delete it by going to the app manager, but it says I can't delete it. When I see it on app manager, it has a calendar icon?

Oh and I recently used desktop manager to try to delete but it says that the app isn't even there.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Can you clarify a few things, please?

I'm not quite sure, from a technical standpoint, what "came up short" means in your case. If you describe the exactly symptoms you see (steps you take, screen displays at each step, complete and accurate error messages, etc.), then perhaps we can figure that one out.

Do you mean you attempted exactly this?

  • KB10040 How to view or remove installed applications on a BlackBerry smartphone

And the result was this:

If you did as described in KB10040 and that is what you see, then that is really odd indeed...

So, if you've not tried ALL steps in KB10040, then please do.

After that, please do this:

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Then, I suggest that you clear the AppWorld application cache:

1. Open App World

2. Go to My World

3. Follow one (and only one!) of these steps:

3a. For keyboard-based BB's -- Hold down the ALT key and then press, in sequence R, then S, then T

3b. For Touch Screen Only BBs -- Hold the num-lock (!?123) button so it locks and then press, in sequence 3, then 4, then (

3c. For newer (e,g., OS6 and 7) BB's, see this KB:

    • KB24714 How to clear the BlackBerry App World cache

4. AppWorld should close.

5. If your BB locks after issuing the cache clear, perform a battery pull reboot

6. Return to AppWorld/MyWorld (it may be sluggish while it re-synchronizes).

If step (4) does not happen as listed, then the clear cache did not work.

Hopefully, after AW re-synchs, you will be able to now re-install BBM.

Good luck and let us know!
