Downloading Apps Using Apps World

I have had my Blackberry Tour for about a year and find that downloading apps from Apps World is neigh impossible.  To add insult to injury when I arrive at the download point the site attempts to force me to sign up for PayPal.  Why is it necessary to go through PayPal when I'm trying to download one of the free apps.  It's enough to drive one to an iPhone.

Re: Downloading Apps Using Apps World

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

AppWorld is a secure system and hence requires credentials. The AppWorld servers forever maintain record of all apps that you obtain, even free ones. Hence, it needs a method to authenticate you. That's just the way it works.

The most recent version of AppWorld no longer authenticates via PayPal. Rather, they have implemented BB ID -- a secure set of credentials between you and the AppWorld servers. Into that account, you place your payment options (among those that may be available, depending on your carrier).

So, that's just the way it is...it's a secure system, and that requires credentials. The "good" or "bad" ness of that is a subjective judgment and does not change the requirement.

Good luck!

Re: Downloading Apps Using Apps World

Thanks for the update-I'm glad to hear that PayPal has been removed from the credentialing procedure-I have no trouble with proper authentication-I just didn't feel that PayPal was the appropriate venue.  I'm going back and try to download the apps that caused my frustration.

Re: Downloading Apps Using Apps World

Cool...just make sure you are updated to the most recent AppWorld version (2.1.0.39).

Good luck!

Re: Downloading Apps Using Apps World

Nope-still doesn't work-PayPal is there in all its' "glory" preventing other means of authentication.  Even though I had App World 2.1.0.39 I overwrote it with the latest 2.1.0.39 (actually same software) to be on the safe side-no go.  App World has been around long enough so that this bug should have been ironed out.  If there's a procedure around the PayPal blockage, I'd really like to know.

Thanks

Re: Downloading Apps Using Apps World

Hmmm...strange. OK...try the workaround in this KB:

KB25521"<Application name> is not available for download on BlackBerry App World" appears when attempting to download an application from BlackBerry App World
