I have read similar issues on a BES which were resolved, but I am not on a BES.
I had no problems with version 1.5, but after upgrading to 1.6 (including 18.104.22.168), the Calendar and Contact Connect options are greyed out and won't sync anymore.
I am using a VZW Curve 8330, v4.5.077

At one point, I attempted to get on a BES. Then there were issues with Verizon and my company, so I just said forget it. I haven't dealt with that since.
Do you think there are still settings attached to that which are messing up the application?

I see it saying "IT Policy Name: Default"
and "Last Updated: Aug 28, 2008"
Also, below that, "Services:" with Facebook and GTalk listed.
If I click on IT Policy Name, should I "Wipe Handheld" ?

Wiping won't remove the IT policy. You can follow the following guide to remove the IT Policy:

I have this same problem. Mine is on a BES but everything worked fine in 1.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you're on a BES then yourBES administator would have to make the changes in this KB article
