Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

I tried going to http://mobile.blackberry.com to download the new Facebook client, and it will not install. After selecting English for the download language, It gives me this error:

Notice

Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support Facebook.

I've tried doing multiple battery pulls, cleared the browser cache, I even wiped my device, and re-install the the latest 8900 OS of 4.6.1.231? Anyone else have this issue or have any suggestions?

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

Download Appworld for your blackberry.  I found it by going through Browser, typing in www.facebook.com, and clicking download Facebook via Appworld, and clicking download Appworld if you don't have it for your phone.  After install, search Facebook, and it should work.

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

The sad reality is that I've had the same issue now for the last 2 hours and what is worse... I can't install AppWorld either. Unfortunately, I am out of the US on business and so Blackberry is telling me I can't install AppWorld or FB. To make matters worse, I have an active Paypal account. And if that isn't enough... I've already deleted FB 1.5x because I thought that was why I kept getting the error!

I'm using a Blackberry Curve 8900 with the latest OS 4.6xxx - RIM/Blackberry!!!! Good grief. How about a solution.

The least you could do would be to provide an installation of FB that doesn't require AppWorld.

If anyone knows where I can download FB 1.5x please post the link so I can at least get the app back on my Curve.

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

I have no use for BlackBerry App World. I only use a few programs on my BlackBerry, and all of which I download from their respective sites. I've never had an issue with downloading Facebook before. I've tried downloading it straight from facebook.com, same issue, and I get the same error as well when I click on the Facebook shortcut program thats part of the service books T-Mobile pushes to your phone, and I still get the same issue.

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

my sentiment exactly, number65... it is ridiculous to force us to use AppWorld in the first place but if that is BB's new requirement... which is seems like it is based on all the postings I've read then fine... but I can't even download it either!

Foolishly I deleted FB 1.5x from my Curve and now I can't find the link anywhere on the web. It's just vanished completely.

How about a solution RIM/Blackberry?

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

Two things...

To my understanding, AppWorld is not a requirement...it is a storefront. Nothing more. It provides a portal to apps that have been written for your device and, I think, only presents you options that are compatible with your specific device. You are free to acquire apps via other channels -- but you need to do the compatibility validation on your own then.

Second -- this is a user-to-user support portal. Those providing answers are by-and-large just other users like you, who volunteer their free time to help others out. Only infrequently will you see someone here that is formal RIM. We are all glad to provide whatever assistance that we can...but we have no insider information nor knowledge. If you want formal RIM support, there are channels for you to obtain that -- starting with your carrier.

Occam's Razor nearly always applies when troubleshooting technology issues!
Believe it or not, Like's do matter! So, if anyone has been helpful to you, please show your appreciation by clicking the button inside of their post. Further, if you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to (on the post that is the solution) click the "Accept as Solution" button so that others can more easily find it. Cheers! Oh...and FWIW...I am not a RIM employee...and these forums are user-to-user...not user-to-RIM.

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

I appreciate the full disclosure. My apology for not being aware of the lackof RIM/BB support here.

I too understand the nature of AppWorld but it is interesting to me that 98% of the posts I'm reading about people having trouble with installing FB 1.6 say that when they used AppWorld it worked fine.

My thread request is simple. If anyone has any insight as to what I can do to get FB 1.6 installed on my Curve, I would appreciate it.

Cheers

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

I have exactly the same problem with my 8310.  I tried installing blackberry app world to see if that would help, but got the same error message as with facebook.

Anybody that can perhaps help?

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

I've got the same issue on Bold 4.6.

I'm in France and I can't use App World for that moment.

Any ideas in order to install the Facebook version ?

Re: Facebook 1.6 Installation Error

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I've the same problem using Curve 8310 (v4.5.037) in Belgium.

The strangiest thing is that I've managed to install it several times yesterday, before wiping my device...

(Problem with Contact Sync & BES)

Anyone has got a clue ??

Thanks,

Mikael
