I'm not sure when it happened, but recently Facebook profile pictures don't show on the Playbook Facebook app. Is there any fix for this?

okay so there was the same issue last spring 2012, two solutions were given in messages 52 and 54 of this past discussion on the forum.
The solutions from contributor jonnydferrari were :
Solution 1. One shot.
in the Facebook app, open the menu, go to the options, and clear the cache.
This has worked for some
.
Solution 2. permanent configuration.
seems to concert the people who have subscribed a data plan that is not full (ie. a social apps data plan : social apps + browser + email)
then do solution 1.
if you have to do solution 2, it is not groundbreaking, but it is less secure for you when you use facebook (either on your PC/mac, or through a tablet or your BlackBerry browser). So if I were you, I would contact my mobile phone operator (Telus, Vodafone, Orange...) and ask them how to solve your issue. In the end they should get to the same thing as solution 2 described above, and will be forced to acknowledge that the way your carrier account is configured forces you to have a less secure facebook experience.

#1 Cache is not available under options.
#2 Secure browsing was never checked.

Sorry it took me awhile to figure out how to log out because I normally just close my browser.
I tried 3 times changing the secure browsing and logging in and out and still does not work.
