GMail app: attached photo download takes too long

When I receive an email with a photo attached and click in the GMail app to open the photo it takes a long time to download. As an example a photo took several minutes to download and involved the downloading of over 600 KB of data in the GMail app; when I downloaded the same photo by navigating to GMail within Browser the download was about 60KB and appeared almost instantaneously.

What is going on? I've heard that items get compressed for downloading to a Blackberry. Is this an example of the compression system going haywire and multiplying the number of bytes?

Re: GMail app: attached photo download takes too long

when you use the GMail webmail on a mobile phone, you cannot have the true image attachment, it is strongly compressed.

using the GMail client for BlackBerry, you get the complete image.
