I have a Pearl. it's the 4th Pearl I've had and all of them, including this one (an 8110), have always run the Gmail app (currently version 2.06) with no trouble. We recently moved to a new server through Microsoft, and now when I try to load the inbox I get the message "There was a problem communicating with the server. Please try logging in again...", and I no longer get either the LED flashing nor the indication on the icon that I have new mail. However, my wife's gmail account works just fine on my Pearl, I can still use Google Talk with no trouble, and I can even view some parts of my gmail account including the address book and the all messages folder.
I've tried reinstalling it and even wiping the system and starting again. Nothing works.

Hi there!
You say you recently moved to a new server through Microsoft -- do you know if you moved on to BES? If so, an IT Policy may have been introduced to your BB that restricts this access. Take a look for an IT Policy on your BB and/or ask your work if they have done this.
Good luck and let us know!

Sorry for not getting back sooner. No internal IT policy on gmail.

Then perhaps you should expand further -- I made a guess about BES...can you confirm your specific configuration? All details please.
Thanks!

Uh-oh. I'd like to give more details but I'm not sure what details you need. Not trying to be difficult, I'm just not sure what's encompassed by "configuration". If you can give me, uh, a little more detail on what details you need?

Well, let's start with this "new server thru microsoft"...what's that? It makes no sense when you also talk about using the GMail app... So, please expand on all of that so that we can understand what your configuration is. What email accounts do you have? Are they BIS? BES?

There are two email accounts. One is a work account. I've only had this Pearl for about a month since joining a newly formed company. For the first few weeks we were accessing work emails temporarily through the BES of the company that set up our new IT systems. When I got the Pearl I downloaded gmail 2.06 and it worked fine. Never thought about it but the gmail would likely be accessed through a Rogers server in the same way as any surfing I do (would that be BIS?). It was after a few weeks that we moved the company's blackberry email accounts to our permanent BES at Microsoft that the gmail app started having the problems I described below. I was even able to change my email settings to access gmail the same way as my work account. It's in gmail 2.06 format that it doesn't work-when I try to access the inbox I get the error I was describing below and the icon doesn't change to show I have new mail.

OK...let me see if I have this down...
Given all of that, my suspicion is that your new BES has pushed an IT Policy to your BB that is blocking the path that the GMail add-on client needs to access the GMail servers. I suggest talking to your BES admins to find out if they have this restriction in place (it could be inadvertent, or it could be intentional).
