When to do a security wipe? Is it safer than reloading the OS?

Both are good... it's according to what your needs are.

I've done a security wipe and restored my personal data from the backup many times.

I rarely just reload the OS, but do upgrade when available.

My phone gets hot, maybe due to apps. I only use facebook and twitter/ ubersocial actually. Thanks though. Glad to have replied by the resident expert.

You can press the your Menu key about two seconds to show what all apps are running on your device in the background. Close some of them not needed.
