Twitter will not run

Hello all. I have a new 9320. It works fine except with Twitter. I have installed it. The Icon is displayed but if I click it the program does not start. When I first run it after the install (I have deleted and reinstalled it a few times now - with restarts inbetween) I put in my username and password (these work fine on a PC running Twitter)and it never seems to log me in. I get the "logging in" timer which when it finishes leaves me with the log in screen. I cannot change anything on this and cannot close it either - I have to pull the battery. Help?

Re: Twitter will not run

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Resend Service Books (pre-BB10 devices only)

  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Reboot

  • Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
  • BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
  • See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support and to ensure that you are subscribed to a data plan adequate to enable the services you desire.

Good luck!

Re: Twitter will not run

Done all of that but Twitter will not start on this 9320. I have even tried it using two separate account - O2 and EE. Both accounts work everything flawlessly - both recieve Tweets but the application will not open so they cannot be read.

The fact that it is receiving tweets means that the account logins are correct. It is the application that is not running.

Re: Twitter will not run

Hello,

Sorry for the delay -- I was attending BBLive this week, and just had no free time at all.

So, I'm confused...you say everything is flawless and that tweets are received, but then you say the app cannot open. Do I assume correctly that you are validating the receipt of tweets separately from the device (e.g., PC)? Since the app cannot open, I can't think of any other way that you'd be able to validate that.

In any event, have you done the last bit of what I advised above -- validated, with your mobile service provider, that your data plan from them includes the use of Twitter? You mentioned both O2 and EE, but you didn't quite say if you actually talked to them to ensure that your data plan includes the use of Twitter...different services work with different service level plans and I've no way to know what exact services you even should expect to function under your specific service plan -- only your carrier can answer that question.

Another thought -- any chance you are on BES now? If so, then talk to your BES admin to be sure that they are not blocking this. Also, if your device was EVER on BES and was not properly cleansed, then a latent IT Policy could be on board blocking this now.

Have you tried other Twitter apps? Maybe the native one is, for some reason, unable to function while a 3rd party one might function well?

There are also more drastic things you can try -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, "Bare Bones OS Reload Process", etc...

Good luck and let us know how you'd like to proceed!
