App world doesn't launch after clicking icon

I have a problem on my 9300. I initially had used app world for months and I could download apps fine. My app memory got exhausted a few weeks ago and I had to delete all my apps except app world. After I deleted the apps my phone no longer launches app world when I click on the icon. I deleted app world, downloaded it again but it still doesn't launch though the app world icon comes up when I'm switching applications on the application chooser. I've done a hard reset numerous times but no luck. I've had to download all my apps OTA. My data plan does support app world, I've been on this data plan since I got the phone in December and my app world had worked fine until a few days ago. I'm also having a similar problem with Blackberry Protect. My current plan has previously supported the app though last month Protect tells me that my data plan doesn't support protect anymore even though I had used it with Protect and it worked fine. Please help.

Re: App world doesn't launch after clicking icon

Hello,

As services delivered via a proper BIS-level data plan, both of your issues are I believe related. The timing of both failing sounds like it is roughly the same, is it not? So, what I would do, if I were you, is to contact my mobile service provider and find out why, when you are paying them for these services, they are now suddenly blocking you from using these services.

Good luck!

Re: App world doesn't launch after clicking icon

The timing is some months apart, the problem with Protect started around April while App World started having issues last week. I'll contact my cell carrier and hope for the best.
Thanks a lot

Re: App world doesn't launch after clicking icon

Hmmm...OK, I interpreted them closer together in time from your first post...but talking to your carrier is of course an excellent step as they are responsible for all of your formal support.

In the meantime, I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Resend Service Books

  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Maybe that will work...if not, then continuing with the carrier remains you formal support channel.

Good luck!

Re: App world doesn't launch after clicking icon

No no no...those are 3 steps, to be performed in order. Doing the SBs alone MIGHT work, but the best method is to perform all 3 steps, in order...

Re: App world doesn't launch after clicking icon

I performed steps 1 through 3 in order, I received mesaages after 1 & 2 before the battery pull, but App World still doesn't launch. I also noticed that on a BBM contacts profile who has App World as a connected app, the icon shows that I don't have App World as an app on my device and when click from this users profile a dialog box appears asking to download App World but when I click 'ok' to begin the download nothing happens. If I attempt to download other connected apps from the contacts profile a screen comes up that looks like App World and I can actually download the apps. I'm currently reinstalling Facebook for BB through this method. On the application chooser, the App World icon is still there but the download is currently running through another process which the application chooser displays as 'net_rim_bb_appworld_lib'

Re: App world doesn't launch after clicking icon

That is quite odd...the firm way to check if AW is actually installed is this:

  • KB10040 How to view or remove installed applications on a BlackBerry smartphone

That will show you if it's installed and, if so, the full version number.

If it's not installed, then this link, from the BB Browser, should properly install it:

Beyond that, continuing with your carrier formal support is of course advised.

Good luck!
