Blackberry Internet but no BBM or Email

Hey there,

I got a problem.

For quite some time i can use my blackberry and surf the internet, but all blackberry funytions like bbm, email, app store and other apps that need the blackberry services to run don't work. I've contacted my carrier multiple times an got this message now...

--- thank you fro your message of 04-26-2012. Our research has shown that the blackberry services are activated, however, since you haven't bought your blackberry with the mobile carrier, we cannot offer you the services for your phone. Please contact Blackberry directly. They have to activate the services for prepaid use ----

FYI, I have had a contract in a different country before, so maybe there's a connection to this...

Could somebody please help?

Thanks a lot in advance..

Hi robert_s_ffm,

You need a data plan to use your BBM or email. Contact again your service provider about data plan on your Blackberry.

Re: Blackberry Internet but no BBM or Email

Hey guys,

thanks for your replies...

Just to make sure... I wouldn't have contacted this forum if i hadnt tried all of that yet. I do have a  data plan, and i do have the right APN settings. My mobile provider told me that all the services are enabled.

Could it be that the previous provider has blocked the services or something? Or is there a certain procedure for switiching to a new provider...

so yeah, again, i have tried all of that above multiple times. I am looking for a more advanced answer here, or somebody from blackberry?! a little bit annoying that you cannot contact RIM directly via a contact form or email...

Thank you guys anyways :smileywink: Woulda been a great start and the right things to do.

cheers

Hi Robert!

Welcome to the Community :smileyvery-happy:

We are all Blackberry Users here and not RIM employees. Sometimes we just  get lucky to have a RIM employee drop by and answer issues. I use to work as a Blackberry Technical Support Supervisor for Telstra AU a few months ago and there are a lot of Users here that are as savvy as a tech rep for RIM.

There are some things that we need to consider:

- if your contract with the previous carrier is paid completely with no balance. As some Carriers have the option to report unpaid, and lost/stolen phones to RIM for pin blocking. Blocked pin will have no updated service books.

- if your Blackberry is an Enterprise phone, it may have had IT Policies active in it.

- if the Blackberry is fine and the only problem is to refresh the Service Books, Please check the Article below:

How to send the service books for a BlackBerry Internet Service account

*PS - as I type this message, the Knowledge Base suddenly went down so I will still need to send you some articles as soon as the site goes up and running. Sorry

Re: Blackberry Internet but no BBM or Email

Hey Ronbob,

Thanks for your great articles and replies.

Yes, I realized that the users here are very knowledgable and my arguments about advanced answers was not at all meant to be intriguing the users of this support forum. Sometimes, one just wishes to speak to a technical support person directly.

Anyways, I found your links to be very helpful although they did not fix the problem for me. Many thanks that you took the time. Might it be a good idea to fully reset the phone? I mean, I'll back-up the contacts and messages - all the apps and that don't work anyways - so there's nothing to loose.

On the other hand, I can't get rid of the feeling that something else is locking the phone from receiving the services (btw. I even got the blackberry sign next to my network symbols on the upper right corner.)

I'll probably try to reset to factory settings. This should at least remove all doubts that the phone is wrongly configured, right? Then enable APN settings - the rest should be within the responsibilty of the carrier, I think.

Looking forward to receiving your helpful replies.

(and again.. no offense - this really helps)
