Re: Don't buy a Blackberry

I just want to say I have just bought a Curve as my Bold developed liquid ingress, never subjected to any moisture of any kind, lived in its holder.  I am disappointed to hear that the Curve has been having the same problems, I had read that they had been improved from the Bold so this wouldn't happen, even though it's not a manufacturing problem!!

Re: Don't buy a Blackberry

I think that if there enough of us with liquid ingress issues without subjecting our phones to any moisture we should have a case to go back to RIM with the issue as it is obviously a manufacturing problem.

We should all be deserving of having our phones replaced.

It is an entirely different issue if you have subjected your phone to the risky conditions like taking into the bathroom, leaving on car dashboard etc, but when there is honestly no reason to suspect your phone has been subjected to moisture then it has to be a manufacturing issue.

Re: Don't buy a Blackberry

I too have had the same problem. Phone was acting weird for a few days then one day the keyboard decided to stop working. I bought 2 year warranty so I took it in and they said it was caused by water damage! It has never been dropped in water or had water dropped on it. And of course water damage isn't covered in the insurance. My option was to pay $500 for a new phone which I was not going to do. It's just so frustrating. I feel like I have been scammed.

Re: Don't buy a Blackberry

I know how you feel, I never did anything to damage my phone, and to be told that it is all my fault is extremely frustrating as the warranty is void due to the liquid ingress.  I am sure it is a manufacturers problem, and I am sure my phone should be replaced, but I have got no joy from anyone concerning this, they all presume I subjected my phone to moisture of some sort, which is rubbish as it hasn't even been near my bathroom, nor any water, spends all it's time in it's holder.  I have actually wondered if that is the problem, that the holder generates moisture, as I have friends who never keep theirs in anything but their pockets and have had no problems.  Hopefully this may stop someone from being subjected to the same problem.

Re: Don't buy a Blackberry

[ Edited ]

The same thing has happened to me and I'm pretty peeved. My phone has NEVER been in contact with any water. I take very good care of my phone, it's only 4 months old. I have a few annoying issues of the screen freezing up, or when I put it to silent mode and change it back to normal again, it says normal but stays silent. The alarm will radomly not go off etc. However my real issue is that it's constantly powering off and on. It does this every couple of minutes, I don't even have time to send or check a message before it shuts down again.

I've looked all over the internet and read of many, many people having the same issue. The die hard blackberry fans always have a comment that the litmus paper only turns when it's exposed to moisture so there MUST be water damage. What a load of *bleep* that is! First off; *IF* the phone is that sensitive, that it will malfunction from a bit of sweat or from condensation caused by minor temperature change then it's a design flaw; It's an issue with the phone that should be fixed.  I've had many different phones over the years and never have I had any "water damage" and I actually got some of those phones wet!! Probably though, in many cases, the phone isn't as sensitive as that. What's actually happening here is that there IS no water damage; the litmus strip is a way for RIM to get out of having to replace their defective product. I have a friend who's had to replace 4 or 5 Blackberry's, I am constantly hearing of friends or acquaintances complaining of issues with their Blackberry... Telus offered me a new Blackberry at reguular price... WHY would I want one? So the same thing can happen in another couple of months and I have to buy another new one?? Either way, in my opinion, the phone is a piece of junk. I'll never recommend them and never buy one again. Almost my whole family, company and a lot of friends have switched to iphone, they're all very happy. What sucks is that I now have a 3 year contract with my carrier and no phone... I'll have to pay $600 for a new one. Thanks Blackberry.

Good for Apple though, they should thank Blackberry for the amount of people making the switch!

Re: Don't buy a Blackberry - I have the similar problem

I brought BlackBerry 9700 from 3 about 3 months ago.

I found a white bright line under left top corner of screen. So, I left it to 3 Service.

Today, I am being told that is a liquid damage and the replacement will cost me $132. I just cannot understand how it could be a liquid damage. Cause I never expose it close to water. I even have not made a call in rain.

A staff of 3 has explained that moisture in bath room or wet hair could also cause liquid damage. I am not going to argue that the mobile phone should be designed to resist the “moisture  damage” (it’s not liquid damage anyway) or the wet hair (still wondering which phone should I use if I’d like to go to gym). I just doubt about how it could be a liquid damage because it has stay with me in office for most of its 3 months life.

The only possible reason caused liquid damage I can think about is the sweat from ears. Shall I wrap BB up with a plastic bag before the next time I use it? If BlackBerry 9700 was designed in this way, it should be written on the user handbook. Then, I will certainly follow the instruction to wrap BB all the time.

Luckily, I can still use my BB. It just has a white bright line on it. Not a big deal. Love my BB!!
