Might be a dumb question. Please bear with me. Newbie here.
How does RIM NOC push new messages to a BlackBerry?
- Does BB keep an active TCP connection to the central server?
- Or the new message notification sent via an SMS or something?
- Or is there a 3rd way?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the pointer.
This is the area I am trying to gain some insight.
5. The BlackBerry Router sends the encrypted data to the wireless network over port 3101.
>>What exactly is meant by "wireless network" here? What is at the receiving end? A server process that can receive data over port 3101?
6. The wireless network verifies that the PIN belongs to a valid BlackBerry device that is registered with the wireless
network, and sends the message data to the BlackBerry device.
>>Again, Is this a server process that sends the message to the BB? It must be, because a 'wireless network' cannot do such tasks. I am trying to understand the mechanism by which the server at the NOC is able to send something to the device. Does the server maintain an active TCP connection to the device or is there some sort of asynchronous notification mechanism akin to SMS?
Thanks for any knowedge that you guys can share.
