Hi,
I have a BB 8800 (T-Mobile) and I tried to update current firmware (4.2.1.101) to the recent OS version. I went to the T-Mobile site and found that there was older version (4.2.1.74) than installed on my handheld.
So, I did the following. I checked all carries on this page and found that Orange UK offers handheld version 4.5 for BB8800.
I downloaded handheld 4.5 software from Orange UK site. Installed it on my PC.
Deleted the VENDOR.XML file located at:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\VENDOR.XML
After that I connected my handheld to the PC and ran Blackberry Desktop Manager.
And it upgraded my handheld OS to the 4.5.0.52

I deleted Vendor.xml AFTER installation of new handheld OS software on my PC.
After that I connected my Blackberry and PC via usb-cable and started Blackberry Desktop Manager software.
