Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Hi Forum!

My Bold 9000 was stolen and I did not write down the IMEI number. In order to report the theft to the police, it would be very helpful to have the IMEI. Actually, I thought that this number was stored within the backups that I made (using the Desktop Manager). But I could not find anything like the IMEI number in the files.

Is there a chance to recover the IMEI from some log files? Where would I have to look?

Is it possible for RIM to recover the IMEI when I provide them with the PIN? I am a private customer, not a business customer, and did not operate the BB via BIS or BES.

Thanks and best regards, Stefan

Re: Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Do you have the original box in which the BlackBerry came? It would be on the white sticker on the outside of the box.

Otherwise, I don't think the IMEI is stored in a backup file, sorry.

Re: Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Thanks for the advice, but I do not have the original box. The BB was used when I got it as a gift. Seems I am out of luck?

Re: Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Yes, you are, it seems. I'm sorry.

IMEI numbers are like serial numbers, probably should be recorded and kept somewhere safe.

Re: Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Well, what about my second question: does anyone know if RIM can recover my IMEI when they are given my PIN?

Cheers!

Re: Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Nope, but your mobile provider should have that information from the sale of the device to you.

Re: Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Ah well, they did not sell the device to me. As I said, I got it as a gift and it was already used. OK, out of luck it seems.

Re: Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Yea, I read that, but I still wanted to answer the only source I would know of where the IMEI would have been recorded.

[ Edited ]

Knowing how much effort the police will put into attempting to track down your phone (which will be almost NONE), I'd suggest you just move on to another one and don't look back.  The chances of you getting it back in working order are slim to none.

Sorry to be so negative, but stolen cell phones are a very low priority for most police forces.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Recover IMEI number (without the device)

Well, thanks for all of your replies. I give up now, does not seem to be fruitful to dwell on this loss too long.

Cheers, Stefan
