I bought my Blackberry 8320 from USA, I am now in Chile. I have a pay as you go with Movistar. From reading on the internet for my BBM to work I need a data plan. What exactly is data plan? Is a data plan part of a monthly contract? Can I get a data plan with my pay as you go?
My spanish is very limited therefore I can not ask Movistar for this information.
Thanks for your help.

The data plan, in your case the BlackBerry Data Plan, is the paid service by which most all of your BlackBerry data features are enabled.
You must have it, in order to get the RIM push email functions, as well as addtional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more. A generic data plan won't do. In most cases, one must have a monthly contract, there are a few service providers which offer this data plan on PAYGO.

please read the following article from the public knowledge base. Since you bought the device in the US, you need to make sure all steps from the seller part are also fulfiled.
