I am looking at purchasing a Blackberry, which one would you suggest. I do not travel internationally, I will use the phone primarily for a phone, contacts, schedule, email and internet. I need a phone that can handle 3,000-4,000 contacts. I am on the road a lot therefore, I would like a full QWERTY key board.
I would like to store book on tape on the phone for driving and music. I appreciate any suggestions.
I was looking at the Storm2, but was told it can handle only 1,000 contacts.
We do not have an exchange server at work.

I think JSsnders did an excellent job answering your questions as well as the OP's.
Personally, I have a Curve and love it. Came over from the Palm and wouldn't go back. I have 1,127 entries in my address book and don't know why/who told you the Storm can only handle 1,000 contact entries. Cal-Contacts-Memo-task are all stored in device memory so the more on board memory one has the better. Storm2 has 256 Mb flash memory; my curve has 96 so you should be able to handle your large contact list.
All your media files should go on a media card so they won't eat up any device memory either. Media card size is dependent on the device OS.
