poor signal

I live in an area notorious for poor signal (for just about any phone or carrier).  Does anyone have any suggestions to help boost signal strength?  Has anyone had any experience with those antenna booster things?  Just looking for some ideas...

Re: poor signal

Sprint just released the new Airave device that connects to your home network to boost your signal in your house (or small office, or whatever).  It only boosts your voice signal, though, and not your data signal.

I have been using one for a few days (from work - and I am only using it so I know how to support it since I work in Telecom).  My house already has a bit of a Sprint signal, so my devices (mine and my husbands) go between 1X (Airave) and 1XEV (outside) a lot, which drains the battery.   However, if your signal is really bad, then you would most likely stay on the 1X (if you don't usually get 1XEV anyway), so you may not have the battery issue.
